It’s tempting to start with tactics.

Sermon series. Calendar planning. Volunteer pushes. Ministry initiatives.

But Movement-Ready Church reminds us that true disciple-making doesn’t start in the staff meeting - it starts in the secret place.

Before you plan for growth, you have to make space for God.

The Shift Didn’t Begin With a Whiteboard

In the early chapters of Movement-Ready Church, Robby Gallaty shares a surprising confession:
The real shift at Long Hollow didn’t come from a better strategy.

It came from a broken spirit.

After months of burnout and confusion, Robby stopped trying to fix everything. Instead, he started sitting in silence. Late nights on the porch. Bible open. Phone off. No plans. Just presence.

“I thought I was going to the porch to recover from burnout. But the truth is, I went to the porch to remember who I was. And more importantly, who God is.” – Robby Gallaty

That’s where everything changed - not in a conference room, but in communion with God.

Refining the Vision in the Quiet

We asked Vick Green what that season of solitude looked like behind the scenes - and how it shaped what would eventually become Movement-Ready Church.

“There’s a reason we say the movement starts in you before it ever moves through your church. For Robby, the Spirit had to strip away everything that looked successful but wasn’t sustainable. And for me, it meant rethinking how we define progress in ministry.” - Vick Green

What emerged wasn’t just a new strategy.
It was a new vision - rooted in spiritual renewal, disciple-making culture, and organizational clarity.

A vision that’s not just for Long Hollow, but for every church longing to multiply disciples - not just manage programs.

But What If You Don’t Have Time for Stillness?

Let’s be honest: most pastors don’t feel like they can afford solitude.

The calendar is packed. The pressure is high. The emails never stop.

So we asked Robby: “What would you say to the pastor who feels like silence and solitude are luxuries they can’t afford?”

“I’d say the opposite is true. You can’t afford not to sit with the Spirit. I ran on strategy for years. But without spiritual renewal, strategy becomes a weight instead of a tool. You don’t need more ministry hacks. You need a fresh encounter with God.”

That’s the core message of Movement-Ready Church:

Before you build systems, build stillness.
Before you build momentum, build dependence.
Before you build a strategy, sit with the Spirit.
